«Through the orange tree's leaves
the day passes, cleaning its wings
silver words suspended: midday.
With your right hand you indicate the sea,
an absence of matter, tomorrow you 'll call it
departure. It's windy,
my ears filled with dust, truth's filter.»
I wrote and remained there.
Let me recall still more recall:
«My ears filled with truth, sand's filter
it's windy, return
a presence, matter, tomorrow you 'll call it
sea (again and again)
with my left hand I indicate
my silver seconds -
how they roll, how they return here where I am,
breakfast in Cairo or Folegandros in mind -
always the same hawk passes
cleaning its wings in the rain's wake
timeless.»

Yiorgos Veis
The life of Greek ex-Ambassador to UNESCO and prolific writer Yiorgos Veis (Georgios/George?! Veis) revolves around making connections between Greece and other countries and between and two passions: diplomacy and literature. In addition to his 35-year career in diplomacy, Veis is also a reputable Greek writer who has written 24 books, including 13 collections of poems that have been translated into nine languages. Veis is the only Greek writer to have won 3 times Greece's most distinguished literary honor, the State Literary Award, for his travel memoirs 'Asia, Asia' , 'From Tokyo to Khartoum' and "Everywhere" . His poetry was awarded twice by the Academy of Athens, in 2008 and 2014 respectively.

Translator
David Connolly was born in Sheffield in 1954. He studied ancient Greek at the University of Lancaster and medieval and modern Greek literature at Trinity College, Oxford before gaining a PhD from the University of East Anglia on the theory and practice of literary translation. He has lived in Greece since 1979 and became a naturalized Greek citizen in 1998. He was Head of Translation at the British Council in Athens from 1991 to 1994, and lectured in literary translation at the Ionian University from 1991 to 1997 and at the University of Athens from 1999 to 2000.[3] He has more recently taught at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
Connolly's translated anthology The Dedalus Book of Greek Fantasy won the Hellenic Society's Modern Greek Translation Prize for 2004.

About the Painter
Clara Pek Veis
Pianist and painter. She was born in Jakarta, in 1971. She studied Marketing in San Francisco. She finished her piano studies at the London Royal Scotland and performed at the City Hall in Hong Kong. Two solo exhibitions of her paintings were organised in Jakarta in 2013 and 2014. Her profile is included in the Edition of Who's Who in International Art, 2016-2017.

Born in Ehime, 1972. She earned her Master of Arts from Sophia University, and then got the diploma of International business management (post graduate)with Honors from Niagara College and the certificate of TESOL from St. George International College in Canada. She has also translated several English works into Japanese, from Gabriel Rosenstock to Bill Wolak. She also has published in haiku magazines and her bilingual books like Duet of Fireflies.
