the dewdrop that rose
to the clouds
about the blackbird
crossing over Europe
about the painter who floated
under the ceiling
of a chapel In the Vatican
You told me about
the eggs of eagles and
the cocoons of butterflies
about the tones that grew
into symphonies
and about words
that grew from
sounds and
signs
becoming sentences
in wondrous libraries
or becoming songs
You told me
about He who came
to die for us
you said
for what we would like to do but could not manage
and for what we did
but should not have done
l pushed the old bicycle
out of the cellar
and set off down the hill
Later when l lay in the ditch
with bloody knees
I saw an angle bicycling

the troll
small and huge
living in mountains and crevices

you're the downward pull you're what rises and rises plunges in towards a vast silence

Odveig Klyve is a Norwegian writer and film director. She is the author of nine volumes of poetry, a short-novel and eight children's books. Her poems are translated into Arabic, English, French, Spanish, Persian, Chinese, Gælish, Hindi, Punjabi, Cannada, Marrathi, Oriya, Malayalam, Rumanian, Macedonian, Russian, Italian and German. She also has translated work of the Iranian poet Forugh Farrokhzad, the Palestinian poet Fadwa Tuqan, and the English poets. Sarah Maguire and Gerda Mayer into Norwegian. She has written and directed several short films, selected for international festivals in Europe, USA and India.. Her video work Between was in 2012 selected for the National Art Exhibition, Norway and for Les Rencontres Internationales, Paris. She lives in Stavanger at the west coast of Norway.
