Beijing, by a subway station entrance

a blind woman is singing

Sū Ruì's "Hand In Hand".

Her slender bamboo guiding stick

is frazzled at both ends.

A few coins grace her coarse black bowl

whose rim is scarred with several chinks.

She uses her ears

to count compassionate clinks

as she sings a melancholy tune

without a trace of gloom.

The sounds of passing footsteps seem

to flow by like a stream:

on their way to work, people flurry by her;

on their way back home, people hurry by her.

The blind woman has sung herself hoarse

unaware the day has turned pitch dark.

She sings "Hand In Hand"

for every passer-by

but who will offer theirs to her?

盲目の女性が歌っている

蘇芮の手と手をつないで。

彼女の持つ細い竹杖は

両端で戸惑う。

粗い黒ボールに数個のコインが入ってる

宇秀，加拿大公民。2001年7月从上海移民到加拿大，现居温哥华。海外华文女作家协会永久会员，加拿大华裔作家协会会员。早在上世纪八十年代，她是知名的校园诗人。她曾获得诗歌、散文、纪录片和新闻报道等多种奖项。她的作品被收入五十种文集。她出版的散文随笔集《一个上海女人的下午茶》和《一个上海女人的女人温哥华》盛行坊间，影响广泛。2018年，她的诗集《我不能握住风》由中国广西师大出版社出版，另一部诗集《忙红忙绿》由台湾秀威出版。《我不能握住风》荣获"2018年中国十佳诗集"称号。

Yu Xiu, Candian citizen.She immigrated to Canada from Shanghai ,China in July, 2001.A lifetime member of the Chinese Overseas Women's Writers Association as well as the Canadian Chinese Writers Association. Currently. she lives in Vancouver, Canada. She was known as a campus poet in 1980s and went on to win many rewards from her poems, penses, TV documentaries and news reports. Her works have been collected by 50 different types of literary corpus. "A Shanghai Lady and Her Afternoon Tea" & "A Shanghai Lady in Vancouver" were her two bestselling books which greatly impacted many readers. 2018, She published two books of poetry " I Can't Hold the Wind" in Mainland China, " Busy on Red , Busy on Green" in Taiwan. " I can't Hold the Wing " won " Chinese Top Ten Poetry Collection in 2018".

Dr. Jan Walls is a Professor Emeritus in the Humanities Department at Simon Fraser University, where he taught Chinese language and cross-cultural communication. He has been publishing translations of medieval and modern Chinese poetry since 1970. Born in Ehime, 1972. She earned her Master of Arts from Sophia University, and then got the diploma of International business management (post graduate)with Honors from Niagara College and the certificate of TESOL from St. George International College in Canada. She has also translated several English works into Japanese, from Gabriel Rosenstock to Bill Wolak. She also has published in haiku magazines and her bilingual books like Duet of Fireflies.
