Duet of Rivers 川の二重奏
Amulet
Bam Dev Sharma
My mother gave me an amulet
Like pouch, a protruding mass of cloth
Hanging around my neck
Slinging upside down.
In utter dark color
To avoid evil eyes of the people
Glaring from distance.One fine morning
She made me wear
By performing rituals for hours
And dipping it into a bowl of oil.
She asked me to sit
Facing my head north ward
To pray until she chants, mumbling
Inserting the thread
And warned me to hide .
I did as was asked
Though hard for me
As it pelted my neck several times,
Dangling into mesmerized whim
Embedded in the black thread.
I hid it underneath of the ruffling collar
Clasping it day and night
I never knowing a simple cause.
My friends shunned at me
To cut this black cinder of fate .
But few years later
The dark amulet was torn:
As the black fleshy cloth began to tatter
And I was curious to see the fabulous content in it.
Sifting one layer or another.
I peeled it
Like an onion
But I was awe- stricken to find
A hair of lock and some seeds of chilies
I was surprised what they meant :
Perhaps the seeds were like bitter reality of the world.
And the lock of hair was my mother's love.
アムレット
バム・デヴ・シャルマ
母さんがアムレットを作ってくれた
僕の首に下げて
上下にゆれている
まったくの黒色で
遠目にぎらりと光り
人びとの悪の目を除けてくれる
はちきれそうな布ポーチみたいな
気持いい朝だった
僕に身につけてくれた
何時間も儀式をして
それを油鉢にそっと浸し
僕に座るように言った
僕の頭を北へ向け
詠唱し、呟き、
糸を入れるまで祈るのだ
そして隠すようにきつく言った
僕は言われたとおりにした
辛かったんだけれど
数度僕の首を打ちつけたとき
催眠の気まぐれで
黒い糸に埋め込まれる
僕はいらいらし衿の下に隠し
昼も夜もそれを止めておき
僕はその単純な理由を知らずにいた
僕の友だちは避けた
運命の黒い灰を切っている僕を
しかし数年後
黒いアムレットは裂けてしまった
黒い肉のような布がボロになりかけたとき
僕は中の糸のようなものが見たかった
何層にもなっている
それを剥がした
玉ねぎのように
しかし見つけて畏敬に震えた
唐辛子の種が髪の毛で包み込まれていた
その意味するところに驚いた
多分その種は世の辛い現実だったのだ
そして守る髪の毛は母さんの愛だったのだ

Bam Dev Sharma (Nepal)
Bam Dev Sharma hasbeen teaching English teacher and language at Tribhuvan University. Currently, he is Head of English Department. He began literary writing since 1994 and poems were published in national language in different literary journals of Bangladesh. He started to write in English in 2007 when I produced a poetry collected jointly with American poetess Martina Reis Newberry. Since then, his poems, including haiku and others were published in different journals and online literary sights.
バム・デヴ・シャルマ （ネパール）
バム・デヴ・シャルマはトリブバン大学で英語を教えてきた。現在は英語学部長である。１９９４年より文学的著作をはじめ、バングラデシュの文学雑誌に自国語で発表してきた。２００７年より英語で書き始め、アメリカ女流詩人マルチナ・レイスとともに詩集を発表した。それから彼の詩はハイクを含めオンライン雑誌や様々な雑誌に発表されている。

Poet, essayist, translator. Born in Kyoto (1952), Graduated from Ristumeikan University. Representative of Japan Universal Poets Association, Chief-in-editors of online international journal "Poetic-Bridge: Ama-Hashi".

Milos Crnjanski Prize in International Literature Festival-Wien 2017, Naji Naaman Literary Prize (Honour) 2018

詩人、エッセイスト、翻訳家。１９５２年京都生れ。立命館大学文学部卒業。日本国際詩人協会代表。国際詩誌「詩の架け橋：天橋」編集主幹。翻訳: 国内外の現代詩人作品を翻訳。JUNPA BOOKS シリーズを手がける。『御名を唱えて』（原著 Gabriel Rosenstockの"Uttering Her Name")は２０１２年アイルランド文学交流協会より翻訳出版賞を受賞。『弾丸シュート』（原著Odveig Klyve の"Bullistic"は２０１９年ノルウェー文学普及協会（ＮＯＲＬＡ）より翻訳助成を下付される。
