I hear the children of the night
kissing wilted flowers like dead hummingbirds
a demon perches in their eyes because there is only darkness to be
found and nothing more
because there is no summer in their eyes and no two thousand suns
explode in their hands
I see the children of the night
nursed at tattered, famished breasts, at fragile breasts of sand
nursed on a white milk that's made of neither clouds nor milk
what taste will the milk of life have in the mouths of the children of
the night?
what looks can they have, these children born of breasts without
summer of wombs without mothers?
I see the children of the night
rocked by some swing that I can't see in a ciranda that shows them
no kindness
that doesn't reach the deepest self in me
what dawnings do they look for in the sky?
what beams from the firmament will reach their faces?
I hear the African jackals in the morning of a cold month
the day is nothing but a bright pearl in a devastated garden
I see the children of the night
trafficking in diamonds and constellations and ivory teeth
there are no seraphim in their saber-like visages
there is no gypsy guitar in their mouths
and the streams do not flow through their veins
they don't defend to the death that city in Andorra, where freedom
once was corralled
I see the children of the night
gouging their nails into the mud the spring the chimera
scavenging through ruins of paper and ash in search of a word to explain the cubist blue of the sky
what is it that's wrong in their eyes?
what is there of tar in their smiles?
in the shantytowns of Rio de Janeiro and of Jamaica
on the street corners of Cairo, Managua, and Kathmandu
in the banana fields of Ecuador and Guatemala
on the rubber plantations of Brazil
on the sharpened soils of the Middle East
in the slums of Saigon San Salvador and Hanoi
something wounds me something corrodes me

夜の子供たち

子供たちの夜が聞こえる
死んだハチドリみたいなげんなりした花にキッスしている
悪魔は目の中にとまっている なぜって暗闇だけがあり
なにも見えないからだ
なぜって目のなかに夏はなく二千個の太陽が
手の中で爆発したからだ
子供たちの夜がみえる
砂のもろい胸で、ぼろぼろで、飢えた胸で育てらた
雲とミルクで作られない白いミルクで育てられた
口に含んだいのちの乳はどんな味だったろう
子供たちの夜に
胸はどんなかたちがあったろう 母親たちのいない子宮の夏
これらの子供たちが生まれて
夜の子供を見る
輪踊りのなかにみえないある振付に固められた
不親切
私のなかの奥処にある私に届かないのだ
彼らは空でどんな絵をさがすのだろう
大空からどんな光線がとどくのだろう
冷たい月の朝、アフリカのジャッカルの声を聴く
その日、荒廃した庭に輝く真珠を除けば何もなかった
夜の子供たちを見る
ダイヤと星座と象牙の取引をしている
サーベルのような顔つきの中に天使はいない
彼らの口にジプシーのギターはない
その流れは血管をあふれることもない
彼らはアンドラのその町の死に克てない
そこは自由は拘束されたところだ
彼らの夜をみる
泥のなか爪にシネマの春を彫るのを
紙くずや灰がらから立体派（キュービズム）画家の
青空を読み解く言葉を捜しながら
目に悪しきものは何なんだ？
笑顔にあるヤニは何なんだ？
リオデジャネイロのジャマイカのスラム街で
カイロ、マナグア、カトマンズの四辻で
エクアドルやグアテマラのバナナ農園で
ブラジルのゴム農園で
中東の困難な局面にある土地で
サイゴン、サルバドール、ハノイのスラムで
なにかが私を傷つける 何かが私を蝕む

NARLAN MATOS - Brazilian-American poet, born in Itaquara, Bahia, 1975. One of Brazil's most famous poets and a rising voice in Latin American poetry. At the age of 21, he published his first poetry book Ladies and Gentleman: the Dawn!, which won the Jorge Amado Foundation Award in 1997. His second poetry book In the Campsite of the Shades won his first national award: the XEROX Award for Brazilian Literature in 2000. In 2002, he participated of the International Writing Program, University of Iowa, as guest of the State Department. His third poetry book Elegy to the New World, published by 7 Letras Publishers - the best one in Brazil - has been already translated into several languages and it has been chosen as one of the best poetry books of 2012, also nominated for the prestigious Portugal /Telecom International Award. Dr. Eleuterio Diaz, from the University of New Mexico, wrote a long essay about this book stating that it has inaugurated a new Latin American avant-garde. He has kept a long correspondence with Noam Chomsky. He participates actively in various literary programs and festivals in the United States and Europe and is the recipient of numerous literary and artistic accolades. His poetry has been translated into Slovenian, English, Lithuanian, Japanese, Hindi,Croatian, Italian, Swedish and Spanish. He holds a masters degree from the University of New Mexico and a PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. In 2014, one of his chronicles was read on the Danish National Radio. ナーラン・マトスは １９７５年・ブラジルのハビア生まれの詩人、ブラジル若手詩人で最も有名である。２１歳のとき、処女詩集「紳士淑女諸君、朝だ!」を出版、これは１９９７年にホセ・アマド財団賞を受賞。第二作「影のキャンプ場で」は最初の国内賞・ブラジル文学ゼロックス賞を２０００年に受賞。２００２年には国際文学創作プログラム・アイオア大学に参加。第三作「新世界の挽歌」はブラジルで最高の作品と評価され、7つの文芸社から出版。すでに数カ国語に翻訳され、２０１２年にはポルトガル・テレコム国際賞を受賞。その年の詩集ベストの一冊として選ばれた。

Translator
Maki Starfield was born in Ehime, 1972. She earned her Master of Arts from Sophia University, and then got the diploma of International business management (post graduate)with Honors from Niagara College and the certificate of TESOL from St.George International College in Canada. She began to make haiku in 2008, where she became recipient of a prize at the 12th annual Mainichi Haiku Contest. On February of 2012, she published a new collection, Kiss the Dragon.
She has recently been performing as a painter as well as a poet. She participated in Design Festa Vol.40 in Tokyo Big Site in 2014 and recently contemporary art exhibitions. She won a prize at the contemporary art (kindaibijutsu) association's public recruitment exhibition in 2017, and was awarded twice (spring and autumn competition) in 2018, and she also got the honorable prize, Dojinsho at the 44th and 45th Taiyo Bijutsu Exhibition in 2018 and 2019, and got a prize at the Ueno Royal museum and has been awarded at the 2020 Salon of Artistes Français. She is a member of Japan Universal Poets Association. She is also a regular member of Sokyu, Sawa and Evergreen in Japanese haiku associates.

３行詩人、俳人、翻訳家。２００８年のときより俳句を独学で学び始める。上智大学大学院英米文学修士課程卒業およびカナダのナイアガラ大学国際ビジネス科大学院コース修了。２０１２年夏にはカナダのSt. George International CollegeでTESOLを取得。２０１１年夏にカナダから一時帰国し、アメリカの出版会社から出版デビュー。２０１２年２月に新句集『キス・ザ・ドラゴン』を自費出版でネット刊行。２０１２年６月、トロントのアートバーで季語にとらわれない新スタイル、３行詩を発表。現在日本に帰国し、独自の朗読会や３行ワークショップなどを行う。最近はイラスト画や絵画を描き始め、２０１４年デザインフェスタＶｏｌ．４０（東京ビックサイト）に出展、２０１７年近代美術協会の春と秋の公募展に入選、２０１８年同協会の春・秋の公募展で奨励賞ダブル入選、同年第４４回太陽美術展同人賞（同画集掲載）を受賞、２０１９年上野の森美術館 第３２回日本の自然を描く展入選、同年第４５回太陽美術展同人賞（同画集掲載）を受賞、２０２０年ル・サロン（フランス）に初入選した。
