Michael Augustin was born in Lübeck, on the Baltic Sea coast in Northern Germany, in 1953. He studied Anglo-Irish Literature and Folklore at University College Dublin and the University of Kiel. While still a student he was doing freelance work for Irish and German radio. He now lives in Bremen with his wife, Indian poet Sujata Bhatt. He works as a writer and broadcaster with Radio Bremen, where he hosts a fortnightly poetry programme and is the editor for the weekly radio documentary. He is co-directing Bremen's International Literature Festival Poetry on the Road.
An author of many volumes of poetry, mini drama and short prose, he has also published several audio books. His most recent collections are Denkmal für Baby Schiller (a collection of poems, prose miniatures and collages) and Schweini blutet - Deutschland tutet (a collection of football poems written during the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil). His poems, collages and drawings have appeared in literary magazines around the globe. Translations of his books have been published in Argentina, Venezuela, Poland, Ireland, England, Italy, Sweden, The Netherlands and Greece. A new collection of of poems and miniatures, Der stärkste Mann der Welt, will be published later this year.
Augustin himself has also worked as a translator of poetry and drama (Kenneth Koch, Adrian Mitchell, Pearse Hutchinson, John B. Keane, Peter Sheridan, Adrian Henri, Roger McGough, Raymond Carver, Sujata Bhatt, Simon Gray, Matthew Sweeney). He has read at numerous international literature festivals (Dublin, Maastricht, Edinburgh, Vienna, Medellín, Caracas, Kuala Lumpur, Surabaya, Vilnius, Johannesburg, Harare, Granada/Nicaragua and Mexico City, Marrakech and Struga) and is the recipient of the Friedrich-Hebbel-Prize and the Kurt-Magnus-Prize.
In 1984 he was a member of the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa in the USA. In 2003/04 he was Max Kade Writer in Residence and Visiting Professor at Dickinson College in Pennsylvania, and in 2006 he was Writer in Residence at the University of Bath in England. In 2009 and in 2015 he and his wife held a residency at the Heinrich Böll Cottage on Achill Island on the West Coast of Ireland.
He is a member of both the German and the Irish P.E.N.

Sujata Bhatt was born in Ahmedabad, India. She grew up in India and in the United States. She received her MFA from the Writers' Workshop at the University of Iowa. To date, she has published nine collections of poetry with Carcanet Press. She received the Commonwealth Poetry Prize (Asia) and the Alice Hunt Bartlett Award for her first collection, Brunizem (1988). Subsequent collections include Monkey Shadows (PBS Recommendation, 1991), The Stinking Rose (shortlisted for the Forward Poetry Prize, 1995), Point No Point: Selected Poems (1997), Augatora (PBS Recommendation, 2000), A Colour for Solitude (2002), Pure Lizard (shortlisted for the Forward Poetry Prize, 2008), Collected Poems (PBS Special Commendation, 2013) and Poppies in Translation (PBS Recommendation, 2015). She received a Cholmondeley Award in 1991, the Italian Tratti Poetry Prize in 2000, and the German Literature Award, Das neue Buch, in 2008. In 2014 she was the first recipient
of the Mexican International Poetry Prize, Premio Internacional de Poesía Nuevo Siglo de Oro 1914-2014. In 2016 she received the TV Asia Award from the Gujarati Literary Academy of North America. She has translated poetry from Gujarati and German into English. She has been a Lansdowne Visiting Writer at the University of Victoria, in British Columbia, a Visiting Fellow at Dickinson College in Pennsylvania, and more recently was Poet-in-Residence at the Poetry Archive in London and at the Heinrich Böll Cottage on Achill Island, Ireland. Born in Ehime, 1972. She earned her Master of Arts from Sophia University, and then got the diploma of International business management (post graduate)with Honors from Niagara College and the certificate of TESOL from St. George International College in Canada. She has also translated several English works into Japanese, from Gabriel Rosenstock to Bill Wolak. She also has published in haiku magazines and her bilingual books like Duet of Fireflies.
