光

光は神だ 仏だ
それ以外は闇だ
こんな単純な世界像を
なぜ 見落としていたのか
神や仏の光がこの世にあるとき
ある場所を照らすことがあるが
それ以外はこの世の闇だ
闇のなかを人間がゴソゴソ動いている
闇のなかだからブッカリ合い押し合い
争い 罪を生む
これが浮世というものさ
この浮世をなんとか愉快にしようと
銘々が動いているが
神の光 仏の光を知らないものは
結局 闇の住人
隙間洩る太陽の光
月の光は太陽の光
神の光 仏の光のおこぼれ
The Light

Light is God. It is Buddha
Everything else is dark
How did I overlook
Such a simple view?
When the light shines in this world
Some places are lit up
Everything else is dark
In the dark, people rustle and move
Because it is dark
They fight and commit crimes
They push and shove
That is the world
To create pleasure for themselves
Everybody makes an effort
Who has not learnt about the light of God and Buddha?
They reside in the darkness
After all
The sunlight fills the gaps
The moon is lit by sunshine
Leaving me the light of God and Buddha
Just as we shine as stars in the Galaxy
Tatsuo Murata (Japan)
Born in 1928 in Otsu, Shiga, Japan. Graduated from Doshisha
University (MA).
Professor Emeritus of Baika Wemen's University, Osaka.
Ex-president of the T. S. Eliot Society of Japan. Vice-president of the Japan Society of Translators.
